Finding Items in Mann's Collection
- Search Cornell Library catalog [reserves items should first be searched for on the Course Reserves page].
- Note call number (and any special location/collection info).
- Find location of call number (and collection if applicable) using Mann SmartMap. Reserves items are kept at the Circulation Desk (map it). Special Collections have restricted access and require special procedures to request .
Checking Materials Out
Present photo ID (Cornell ID or driver's license preferably) at the Circulation Desk (map it) where staff can access and validate your library account.
Loan Periods/Privileges
The patron group you belong to affects how long the intial loan period is for books. Most regular loan books can be renewed. Books can be recalled after two weeks which may shorten the due date.
For regular books:
- Undergraduate students have a 6 week loan period.
- Faculty members have an indefinite loan period. The items are only due back if recalled or if the faculty member leaves Cornell University.
- Staff and Graduate students have a 6 month loan period.
- Privilege card holders are allowed 4 week loans for up to 20 books. No other items types can be borrowed.

Proxy Status can be set up by Faculty or Staff. A proxy is given permission to access the account of the host, thus granting them the same loan period as faculty and staff.
Spouses of Cornell students and faculty can purchase Cornell ID cards from the Registrar to enable them to borrow Library materials. Spouses of Cornell staff can get Library cards from 116 Olin library . The spouse who is officially connected with the university is responsible for these items, and notices go to the address for the spouse who is officially connected with the university.
Visitors may use the collections or on-line resources at Mann Library anytime the building is open, and may be eligible for a privilege card , guest borrower card or other visitor privileges .
