Statistical Software

Mann Library provides the following programs for statistical analysis, as well as related programs in systems dynamics and modeling. CISER also has a variety of statistical resources. The Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit maintains a list of statistical software availability across the Cornell campus.

The most commonly used software programs are:

Mann Library has manuals for most of these programs; they can be found on the Stone Computing area refence book shelf. You may also want to look up these programs in the Library Catalog, since there are many online versions of help manuals available in the Books 24x7 web site. Simply do a keyword search for the name of the program. (Please note: you have to enter Books 24x7 from the Library Catalog to view the full text.)

CrimeStat

CrimeStat is a spatial statistics program for the analysis of crime incident locations and interfaces with most desktop GIS programs. See ICPSR's CrimeStat III page for more information.

DBMS Copy

DBMS/COPY translates data files across over 70 different formats, including all popular general statistical packages, many data base programs, and spreadsheets. It is now available with a Cornell site license. For more information, see StatNews #36.

JMP

JMP is a menu-based software package produced by SAS Institute. The most outstanding features of JMP include the graphical presentation of statistical results, interactivity between program output and data and the ability to work with multiple data sheets simultaneously. See the University of Tennessee's JMP tutorial page for more information. Located in: Stone Classroom, B30A & B30B classrooms.

MathCAD

MathCAD's interactive, visual interface makes it easy to set up, analyse, solve and document all kinds of technical problems, using real mathematical notation which you can integrate on-screen with text and graphics. See the MathCAD Plus web site for more information.

MATLab

MATLAB is a high-level technical computing language and interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualization, data analysis, and numeric computation. See the MATLAB documentation pages for more information.
Located in: Stone Classroom, CIT classroom, Dell loaner laptops, CIT PC's on Mann's 1st floor.

Minitab

Minitab is an easy-to-use package, used interactively on many computer systems to provide data manipulation and statistical analysis for small to medium sized datasets. Data are held in a temporary worksheet of rows and columns. See the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit's Minitab page for more information.

SAS

SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a general purpose data analysis system for managing data and analyzing it statistically. It's primary strengths are a comprehensive set of well-established, accurate and efficient library of statistical procedures and documentation corresponding to each. See the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit's SAS page for more information.
Located in: Stone Classroom, B30A & B30B classrooms.

SPSS

SPSS is the acronym of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. SPSS is one of the most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with simple instructions. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive (batch) uses. See the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit's SPSS page for more information.
