Rare or fragile materials are kept under restricted access at Mann Library. To access these items, referred to as Special Collections materials, patrons should come to the Circulation Desk. They will be asked to fill out a registration form and an item request slip.
Policies for Viewing Special Collections Material
- Special Collection items may only be acquired between 8:30am and 3:30pm Monday – Friday.
- Viewing of Special Collections material must be done in the Administrative Office, under the supervision of a staff member. To allow ample viewing time before the offices close at 4:30pm, it is best to make your special collection requests before 4pm.
- Only two special collection items will be made available at one time.
- In the event that a photocopy of a special collections item is needed, Collection Development staff will assist. The preferred method of making copies is to use the digital camera. The cost for these photos or scans is $2/image. Burning these images to a CD is an extra $1 on average. In cases where the item is in good condition, Collection Development staff can make photocopies on behalf of the patron. The cost of photocopies is $.35/page.*
- We cannot guarantee that scans or photocopies will be made immediately upon request. Patrons may be asked to return to Mann at a later point to pick up copies.
*Please note that required staff time and overall condition of an item can have an effect on the price of scans and copies.
