Requesting Material from Mann Library

Cornell University Library has now integrated lending on the web in order to make it easier for the outside world to request material from any of the 20 Cornell Libraries, including Mann Library. Businesses, organizations and institutions not affiliated with Cornell can request loans of books and articles from the Cornell Libraries collection. Individuals not affiliated with Cornell may request articles directly from the Cornell Libraries collections. Loans, however, must be requested through the interlibrary loan department of your local public or academic library.

To receive best quality service, please check search our catalog prior to submitting requests. Our catalog can be found at http://catalog.library.cornell.edu. Please make a note of the call number as it is required on the Cornell University Library Lending form.

Loan Policies

We loan most of the items in our collection that are held at Mann, Library Annex, Entomology, Ornithology or the Bailey Hort. Mann Library will loan books and send articles electronically via e-mail or Ariel to customers who use the lending webform. Mann Library loan policies are as follows.

Restrictions

  • We can fill requests for most kinds of items, except items held in special collections, reference or reserve.
  • We cannot loan serials published in the last five years.
  • We cannot fill international loan requests to countries that, for various reasons, may be unable to return our material.
  • Not more than 5 volumes from a given title can be checked out to you at any given time.
  • Books published in the past five (5) years are not renewable. They must be returned by the due date provided.

Shipping

  • Domestic packages are shipped via UPS, unless we are provided a customer's Fed Ex number.
  • International and noncontiguous US loans are shipped via airmail.
  • Domestic loans (within the USA) should be returned by courier.
  • Please follow the packaging instructions provided on the paperwork.

Policies

  • The standard loan period is 6 weeks.
  • Renewal requests should be made by e-mail or phone. We allow two renewals only.
  • Overdue notices are generated soon after the item becomes overdue. If a problem has arisen, please let us know or respond to our inquiries.
  • All loans are subject to recall at any time.
  • If the item is not returned, a replacement fee, a minimum of $100.00 is issued two months after the item becomes overdue. This fee is waived if the item is returned in good condition prior to replacement. If an item is lost en route to Mann, the replacement fee will be waived only if the borrower used a courier and can provide documentation indicating that the item was picked up by the courier.
  • The replacement fee for a recalled item is issued ten days from the time of recall. If the item is returned before a replacement copy is ordered by Mann Library, $75.00 will be waived. A $25.00 non-negotiable late fee will be assigned.
