Mann Library’s international outreach focuses on bridging the information divide. In collaboration with major publishers, international development agencies and private foundations, it is engaged in several programs that enable scientists and students in the developing world to access current scholarship in agriculture, environment, health and biomedicine at little or no cost.
Journal Delivery Programs
TEEAL is a full-text digital library of hundreds of scientific journals addressing agriculture, biotechnology, and related sciences. Included within TEEAL are a searchable citation database and a simple interface. Journal coverage starts in 1993 and continues to the present. TEEAL is available at low cost to universities, agricultural research centers, and other non-profit organizations in the developing world. AGORA provides free web access to hundreds of major scientific journals in agriculture and related biological, environmental and social sciences to research institutions in the developing world. AGORA is led by the Food and Agriculture Organization in partnership with major scientific publishers, Mann Library and others. It derives from the digital agricultural library TEEAL, produced at Mann Library, and HINARI, the medical counterpart to AGORA. International Reference Services
Mann Library, in cooperation with International Programs CALS, Cornell Center for Transnational Learning, and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), has previously partnered with African universities to provide Ph.D. and MsC students in plant breeding with specialized reference and resource services.
This service has been offered at the Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (ACCI), University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg; the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana; and Makerere University. Currently, the program is still active within the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI). This program was designed to supplement a University’s existing library resources and to help students when they are in the field conducting research.
